An Umbrella for the Bride
I got married on the 30th of April in Galway, Ireland. The day before the wedding there wasn't a cloud in the sky and it was one of those fabulous sunny days in Galway. Quay street was buzzing, Spanish Arch was full of activity with people sitting outside enjoying the sun, the buskers and a few drinks. My sister kindly did all the wedding planning for me and the day before the wedding we were both feeling organised, excited and ready for the wedding day.
The morning of my wedding was sunny and the air was fresh and crisp. As I left the hairdressors and walked down Shop Street about 10.30am, the rain started. Umbrellas, we had forgotten to get umbrellas. It wasn't meant to rain on my wedding day! The day before was so beautiful, warm and sunny. On a tight time plan and already running 40 minutes behind ( the bride before my appointment was late, wasn't happy with her hair and had to have it redone) we had minutes to source umbrellas. We found umbrellas but needless to say they didn't match or complement anything.
As the photographer asked me to stop for a photo on the red carpet up the steps of the church, I smiled under my terrible umbrella. She strongly recommended we leave out the umbrella. Once a few rain drops had landed on my silk dress, set hair and make up, I choose to leave out the photo outside the church. Such a pity there was no good photo of the beautiful flowers, red carpet and an excited bride etc.
Despite the rain we had a wonderful, happy day surrounded by all our friends and family and partied until 5am in the morning.
The moral of my story, buy a wedding umbrella for the day of your wedding. Hopefully you will be using it as a parasol to shade you from the glare of the sun. If not, at least it will be very useful and you will get the photo outside the church and many more outdoor photos.
When I returned to the shop after my honeymoon, one of the first things I did was to source a good quality, good looking and fairly priced bridal umbrella. There are some very expensive ones on the market but I think this Susino umbrella, retailing at only €17.95 is perfect. At this price you can even afford to get a few for the bridesmaids and the mothers of the bride and groom.
